The Astrology of June 2013 - Help is on The Way

The Astrology of June 2013

Help is on The Way

May Recap

The focus of May’s chart was a set of aspects connecting Saturn, Pluto, Uranus and Venus. It involved an explosive but controlled release of tightly channeled Uranus/Pluto energy. The energy was channeled into the formation of grassroots action groups that will expand the battle for grassroots interests.

May’s chart was especially intense because all the signs were in their natural houses. A number of disruptive astrological events spaced throughout May added to the intensity.

Mars opposed retrograde Saturn on May 1st. There was a Solar Eclipse May 10th. Uranus squared retrograde Pluto on May 20th. Finally, there was a lunar Eclipse May 25th, the third in a series of eclipses that began in April.

The general opinion seems to be that May lived up to its billing. By all accounts it was a rough month. The good news is that May is the last in long series of rough months. The vibes for the rest of 2013 and into 2013 are far more constructive and supportive. This summer is especially promising. Clearly, challenges will continue; these are interesting and difficult times.  However, we can expect significant relief.

Good News for the Second Half of 2013 and Beyond

The chart for the 2nd half of 2013 combines a Kite, a very supportive configuration, and a Grand Square, a major blocking aspect. This combination of supportive and blocking aspects means, we will see significant forward strides alongside the gradual resolution of deep-rooted, long-standing issues - on all levels, in all areas.

In other words, these aspects will not allow us to simply exploit supportive aspects for short-term gain. They will virtually demand that we also solve underlying problems.

Charts for the first half of 2014 continue this supportive and wholesome trend.

Jupiter Takes over the US Chart

There are clear astrological signs that the US economy will show its considerable strength in June. If Jupiter does not jolt the US out of its economic slump this summer, it’s hard to imagine what would. The US is one of the major engines of the global economy; rising strength in the US economy means improved economic conditions globally.

The US natal Jupiter is exalted in Cancer in the 8th house of collective finances, which, with the 2nd house, forms the financial axis of the chart. The economic power of the US is obvious in its natal chart.

When Jupiter enters Cancer on June 25th, it will recharge the strongly placed US Jupiter. Jupiter will go on to conjoin US natal Jupiter on July 22 and the US Sun on August 28. Indeed, Jupiter will transit the entire US 8th house stellium.

This strong infusion of Jupiter energy does not, however, mean that economic challenges will simply vanish overnight. But it does likely mean that a sense of progress and growth will supersede the feeling of stalemate and scarcity.

Supportive Resonances and Reciprocities

Jupiter transits Cancer every 12 years, of course, but this will be no ordinary Jupiter transit of Cancer. Also, we have seen some economically rough planetary placements in recent years. However, the problematic planets have now worked themselves into placements that are unusually supportive of this Jupiter transit.

Tracing a few representative subtleties will clearly illustrate the exceptional power of this Jupiter transit:

  • Saturn, which could dampen the positive effects of a strong Jupiter, is in Scorpio, trining Cancer.

  • Uranus is squaring Pluto, both forming a T-Square with Cancer, another potentially damping effect on Jupiter. But Uranus is in Aries; Scorpio governs Aries. Uranus is also exalted in Scorpio, which is Pluto’s home turf. These  underlying reciprocities will soften any adverse effects of the Uranus/Pluto square on Jupiter's expansive powers.

  • More generally, Saturn and Pluto can cause high levels of dissonance and disruption, which could overpower other positive indicators. However, Saturn and Pluto are now in sextile relationship and in mutual reception. This will suppress, or at least moderate, the darker potentials of Saturn/Pluto.

These positive, harmonious resonances will all but turn potentially difficult planetary relationships into major economic assets.

In any case, I think we can see why this Jupiter transit is exceptional and why we need not fear that its benefits will be negated by prevailing conditions.

June’s Composite Chart

June’s composite chart takes us across a threshold into a new and different astrological environment. I will postpone discussion of specific themes for another time and focus on what makes it different - different in a good way.

This month, I will focus on what makes this chart so supportive as compared to so many charts of the recent past. Specifically, I will discuss a structure similar in important ways to the structure that dominates the composite chart for the last 6 months of 2013 mentioned above.

Operation Bootstrap

June’s chart is dominated by a Kite. Overall, the Kite combines Neptune, Chiron, Pluto, the North Node, Saturn, Jupiter and the Sun. It is a synergistic combination of supportive and challenging aspects. The challenge lines, the lines of the T-Square, connect retrograde Pluto, Uranus and Mercury and Venus.

June’s chart is characterized, then, by a Kite, an essentially supportive, synergistic aspect. Helpful trines and sextiles are intertwined with a challenging T-Square. It challenges us but also enables us to overcome obstacles to success.

The difficult lines (red) provide the grounding that will make the progress enabled by the supportive lines (blue) substantive and lasting.

Taken by itself, this T-square is highly disruptive of existing personal identity, family and other important relationships. It will confront us with conflicts between the changing world and our personality, existing social bonds and personal loyalties.

The supportive lines, however, let us address these relationship challenges successfully. They also harmonize relationship changes with changes we must make to pursue emerging economic opportunities.

Overall, the Kite supports a robust, multi-faceted, successful effort to harmonize our personality, our lifestyle and our social bonds with important economically driven changes. It will also help us overcome challenges left over from the past as well as new ones arising from rapidly changing life conditions. It will, that is, support deep, positive foundational changes.

It will also help us harmonize all of the above with emerging economic opportunities.

Misalignments Means Wiggle Room

All the lines in the Kite converge on Pluto and the Part of Fortune at the base of the Kite, near the 4th House cusp. Pluto is a source of power, motivation and insight. The Part of Fortune is an important source of positive synchronicity. The entire Kite structure draws on this power and synchronicity.

However, the T-Square and the supportive lines in the Kite are misaligned at the apex.

This misalignment lends the Kite flexibility. We can safely and successfully divide our attention and our energies between different facets of the task before us.

At the top of the Kite, the difficult lines converge on Mercury and Venus; the supportive lines converge on Jupiter and the Sun, splitting the energetic focus.

This lets us, indeed, compels us to divide our effort between the interpersonal (Mercury/Venus) and the economic (Jupiter/Sun). It insures that we will not adopt a facile, expedient solution to relationship issues for short-term economic advantage, and vice versa. Nor will we have to devise some unhappy compromise that does justice to neither relationships nor career. Relationship and economic issues will not derail each other.

Nor need we make everything work perfectly now. We will have time for adjustments as we proceed.

Angular T-Square

Of the two focal points in the chart, the economic and the interpersonal, the interpersonal focus is significantly stronger. June will seriously affect the balance of power as well as the emotional, ethical and moral facets of our important relationships.

The intense, disruptive and transformative energy of the T-square is focused on the angles of the chart. It aligns with the vertical, power axis and the horizontal, relationship axis. This dramatically increases its power and importance in the chart.

Concern for these issues will be uppermost in our minds in June and for some time following. We want to advance economically, but we want our important relationships to thrive.

Essentially, then, our whole lives, but especially our relationships and our career, are caught up in a two-pronged transformative process in June.

And Afterward

This dual, challenging/supportive dynamic carries through the rest of 2013. The focus and intensity of the energy might vary from month to month, but one thing remains the same. We will pursue a dual track: rapidly emerging opportunities and the resolution of core issues.

A first look indicates that this highly supportive, dual dynamic extends at least into the first half of 2014.

Astrology Forecast for June 2013 - Sign-by-Sign

Astrology Forecast for June 2013

For Everyone

June’s chart tells us we have arrived at a new starting point. The period of testing and preparation are over. A time of difficulty is ending. There’s always a catch, though. Fulfilling the opportunities opening before us will mean squaring our personal circles, or doing something we have always wanted to do but never thought possible. Like overcoming a lifelong case of stage fright, or surpassing our personal best. You’ll succeed if you’re willing to wrestle the occasional demon, or angel, along the way.

Sign-by-Sign

GEMINI (May 20 - June 19) ~ Professional goals, working conditions, and opportunities for financial growth and self-betterment are dovetailing. It will take time and effort to make it happen. You must support your boss’s agenda, which means added work and compromise. But basically your goals and your boss’s, coincide. Things look good. However, potential supporters are making big changes; their lives are in flux. They can’t commit. There are also interminable quarrels over how to proceed. Your best bet is to tend your own garden, for now . . . and your boss’s.

CANCER (June 20 - July 21) ~ The transition that’s coming blends deep spiritual and psychological progress with professional and financial advancement. It’s a major life reorientation. You’ll also need to introduce a whole new you to the world. Expect challenges from partners and allies. They expect the old you, and they’re dealing with life changes of their own. Despite a sometimes argumentative, dismissive reaction from preoccupied friends, the new you will eventually grow on them and your new perspective will benefit them. For now, though, get used to explaining yourself.

LEO (July 22 - Aug. 21) ~ Leo has exciting plans for the future. Opportunities are arising. Leos have leverage. Pieces are lining up like proverbial ducks. But you will need focus and an unusually peaceful mind to make it work. Many people in your life are experiencing life changes, too, just not as smooth as the one you are experiencing. Disruptions overflow too often into your life. Support friends and associates. For the foreseeable future, though, you’ll be forgiven for prioritizing your own goals and insulating yourself from the turmoil.

VIRGO (Aug. 22 - Sept. 21) ~ The world is a daunting blend of challenges and opportunities, right now. Solutions for others involve lots of juggling. For Virgo, the challenges and opportunities are arranged more conveniently so they can pursue their goals more directly. You’ll also have the time and space to complete the necessary adjustments gracefully. Best of all, the key for Virgo is something Virgos do better than anyone: thinking things through thoroughly. This rare combination of circumstances will let Virgos make a vital life change in comparative peace.

LIBRA (Sept. 22 - Oct. 21) ~ Librans love harmonious relationships and they’re good at tuning up disharmonious ones, but they’ll have their hands full in June. Change, especially in financial and professional areas, is disrupting new alliances and old. Even soft words can trigger big overreactions. However, relationship difficulties will be balanced by opportunities for personal growth. Chip away at relationship issues, but focus strenuously on self-development. Paradoxically, the spaces opened up by tensions in close relationships will make room for experiences that ultimately strengthen and deepen all your relationships.

SCORPIO (Oct. 22 - Nov. 20) ~ To most Scorpios, the world looks like it’s in a blender set on high. Also, Scorpios, are . . . well . . . feeling their age. I can see why they might think they’re at a disadvantage. In fact, they are well-positioned to guide events wisely, and benefit from them. This advantage will persist, even increase in coming months. More, Scorpios will feel entitled to exercise their power on their own behalf. They can and should retake control of their own lives to once again set their own course.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 21 - Dec. 20) ~ With personal finances and workplace politics both threatening to get completely out of control, I can see why Sagittarians would be apprehensive. But this is one of those times when attitude really counts. The facts on the ground can be turned to your advantage. They can become stepping stones to a much more secure and rewarding position. Abandoning a few outdated, self-defeating attitudes will quickly lead to greater self-confidence and an almost instinctive ability to successfully navigate the tense and turbulent currents around you.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 18) ~ Capricorns could experience June as an outstanding success or a nerve-wracking ordeal. It depends on which of June’s events you focus on. True, June will be fraught with contention and dissension, particularly among family, friends, work associates and other key alliances. Your administrative and diplomatic skills will be sorely tested. June will also begin a remarkable Capricorn success story. You can move a complex and ambitious plan decisively forward. Only Capricorn could pull this off. So don’t let your trials will eclipse your triumph.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 19 - Feb. 17) ~ Aquarians are both idealistic and practical, but the idealistic (i.e. impractical) side often dominates. Nowadays, Aquarians are feeling especially driven to manifest both their idealistic and practical sides, to make idealism self-supporting. They’ll have to trade their occasionally combative, crusading style for a more mellow, personable one. And they’ll need to blend their idealistic and spiritual attitudes with more than a modicum of business sense. It’s even harder than it sounds. However, the planets are now supporting just such an ambitious makeover

PISCES (Feb. 18 - Mar. 19) ~ Your drive for a more fulfilling lifestyle often puts you at odds with the world around you. Home has become a safe-haven where you too often retreat, avoiding the work necessary to build that better lifestyle. Under present conditions, it’s understandable. Wouldn’t it be great, though, if you could learn to engage the world with the same ease and warmth you bring to home life - without compromising your ideals? It’s the missing piece of the puzzle. Present planetary conditions strongly support exactly that goal.

ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 18) ~ Aries is confronting opposition from the powers that be and family too. It’s all but overwhelming and there’s little you can do to prevail. The good news? When all is said and done, you will agree with the outcome. People will come to conclusions you can live with. You will find the new status quo quite agreeable. An irrational, disruptive influence is affecting relationships, especially with female family members, but it will bring healing in the end. Your budget will tighten in coming months.

TAURUS (Apr. 19 - May 19) ~ Taurus’s personal attitudes and their financial situation evolved significantly in recent months. The two processes followed separate tracks. But now, as both trends reach fruition, they are dovetailing, bringing you quickly to a major turning point. The new attitudes will fit neatly into the new livelihood. The new Taurus and a new livelihood will emerge more or less simultaneously, and successfully. The new livelihood will bring new social bonds and the new Taurus will bring new energy to old ties. Finances will improve noticeably.

The Astrology of May 2013 - High Voltage Politics

The Astrology of May 2013

 High Voltage Politics

Disclaimer

However, by now, after years of continuous intense astrological activity, every area of our lives is supercharged with transformative and disruptive energies. Each month seems to initiate processes that will take years to completely unfold; strata upon strata of transformative processes are unfolding simultaneously, each person and each nation responding according to their nature, adding to the appearance of chaos.

It's as if the transformative process has encompassed every area and facet of our lives. Everything is in transformative motion at once. As a result, there is turbulence everywhere we look and it masks the underlying meaning and direction of events. The main focus of events in any given month can be completely obscured by the overall turbulence.

I will continue to focus on the chief astrological narrative line, but acknowledge that it might be hard to discern that line in what is becoming the chaos of contemporary global events.

On the other hand, these charts remind us that the world is not descending into chaos. There is a fundamental, underlying pattern in world events and they have a direction.

Recap of April 2013

In April, a major stellium in the 6th house brought a release of difficult energies in the workplace and wherever people exchange goods and services for cash.

Early in April, labor issues were in the foreground. Fast Food workers in the New York area carried out an unusual and courageous strike for higher pay. Several hundred service workers struck in the Chicago area later in April. Obama’s nominee for Labor Secretary came up for consideration.

A Lunar eclipse, the first of three eclipses in April and May, occurred on April 25th. It coincided with a number of violent, catastrophic events. I believe the approach of hard aspects that will be exact in May also helped determine these events.

These violent and tragic events in the third week of April overshadowed April’s overall emphasis on workplace issues. However, at least one of these events, the catastrophic explosion of a fertilizer plant near Waco, TX, was, essentially, a workplace disaster and raised innumerable issues related to worker safety.

On an individual level, if my own experience is any indication, April saw many overdue on-the-job discussions with coworkers.

May’s Astrological Milestones

Let us next consider some of the astrological milestones in May.

  • Mars in Taurus opposite Saturn retrograde in Scorpio, May 1. This is a potentially dangerous aspect adding a volatile, explosive component to the eclipse activity we are seeing along the Taurus/Scorpio axis - the chief financial axis of the Zodiac. This emphasis, overall, suggests major transformative events affecting global finances. I believe the approach of this aspect is partly responsible for the difficult or violent events in late April.

  • Mars in Taurus trines Pluto retrograde in Capricorn on May 5 (GMT). This aspect is essentially supportive, but it will add Mars/Pluto energy to a period already supercharged with explosive Mars/Pluto/Saturn energy. It could make things either worse or better, depending on the situation. Perhaps difficult situations (Mars v. Saturn) will catapult us into more favorable ones (Mars trine Pluto).

  • Solar Eclipse in Taurus, May 10th. Another release of force along the already hyper-stimulated financial axis.

  • Uranus in Aries Squares Pluto retrograde, for the 3rd Time, May 20th. This square is the third in a series of seven extending from June 2012 to March 2017 (the next one is in November).

  • Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, May 25th. This third eclipse in a series of three, hits the Gemini/Sagittarius axis.  This is the main political axis of the Zodiac. Expect major political and ideological realignments. With the Sun in Gemini in the 3rd, in the sign and house of grassroots politics, expect a further dramatic increase in the level grassroots political activity.

May 2013 - Overview

Business as Usual Interrupted

May thrusts us across an important threshold in the transformation being powered by the Uranus/Pluto square (exact seven times from mid-2012 thru spring 2015).

The ongoing debate over what used to be generally accepted, core political and economic assumptions will escalate further. Sweeping political realignments will set the stage for fundamental change.

The Embodiment of Uranus Square Pluto

The key to May’s chart is a set of aspects between Saturn, Pluto, Uranus and Venus. This configuration is especially intense because sign and house cusps line up to within a few degrees, placing all the signs in their natural houses.

Taken as a whole, May’s chart shows a revolutionary spirit, a transformative current, flowing through the entire social structure and permeating all events.

Let’s look at each point in this configuration separately. It’s best not to draw any conclusions until the end.

  • Uranus in Aries in the 1st House squares Pluto retrograde in Capricorn in the 10th. This square indicates an intense, classic clash between individuals and authority.

As before (see June 2012, when it was exact for the first time), the Uranus/Pluto square is imbedded in a larger structure that channels its power into a process of comprehensive social transformation. It will affect all the channels through which power typically flows in society. Revolution will be in the air.

When all is said and done, Uranus in Aries in the 1st House lends the chart a predominantly Aquarian tone.

The Yod Itself

The Uranus/Pluto square is linked to a Yod, made up of Saturn retrograde in Scorpio in the 8th, Pluto retrograde in Capricorn in the 10th, and Venus in Gemini in the 3rd.

  • There is a Saturn/Pluto sextile at the base of the Yod. Saturn and Jupiter retrograde are in mutual reception - by Sign and House. Saturn, the planet of discipline, order and austerity, is in the House of collective resources and power. It sextiles Pluto, the planet of power as such, in the 10th house of administrative or governmental power.

This sextile is the very picture of high-level, wide-ranging, in depth deliberations over fundamental political and economic issues.

  • Venus in Gemini in the 3rd house of community is quincunx Saturn in Scorpio in the 8th.

This indicates a strong inclination, and/or inescapable need, to consider the needs and preferences of communities and local groups during these high-level negotiations.

  • Venus in Gemini in the 3rd house of community is quincunx Pluto in Capricorn in the 10th. This placement is all about the bonds of affection and loyalty that bind political and economic entities together.

This quincunx indicates an inclination to question the loyalties that have allowed gross imbalances of power and wealth to develop in society and a desire to make adjustments.

This Yod will energize tensions between social classes and between all levels of social organization - families, neighborhoods, cities, states, regions, central governments and international alliances. It will also activate tensions between capital and labor, church and state, between the races, and between established citizens and immigrants, and so on.

Yod + Uranus/Pluto Square + . . .

The Yod sets up endless debate over rights, duties and obligations within society. The Uranus/Pluto square disrupts relations between individuals and authority.

Combined, considered apart from the final aspect in the structure, the Uranus/Pluto square and the Yod would produce a chaos of competing, isolated individuals clashing interminably over fundamental questions, unable to achieve consensus. The picture is not a pretty one.

Doubtless we will witness some of this chaos of ideas and emotions. But there is one more aspect in the configuration that changes the entire picture.

Yod + Uranus/Pluto Square + Venus/Uranus Sextile

A sextile between Uranus in Aries in the 1st House of the individual and Venus in Gemini in the 3rd House of community completes the circuit. This final link in the chain of aspects turns a potentially anarchic influence into a transformative one.

Assertive individuals (Uranus in the 1st) join with like-minded members of the community to form coherent politically active groups. (Venus in the 3rd).

Groups then join with other groups, ultimately revitalizing the social power structure. The same would be true in commercial, religious and secular organizations, across the board.

Worldwide Transformation of Societies

The social contract is about to be rewritten, with all the excitement and turmoil such things always entail.

Given present trends, top-down governance, favoring the powerful and the wealthy, will give way to governance in which wealth and power are far more fairly distributed.

Add Two (More) Eclipses and Stir Gently

May’s eclipses tell us that we will cross a political and economic point of no return. The error of our old ways will become painfully obvious enough to spur genuine change. Attitudes will shift even more strongly in favor of immediate social and economic reform. However, as will all the other events we have discussed in recent months, this process will not take place overnight. It will be yet another long-term transformative process among others now unfolding.
